Milestone’s detoxification program offers Maine residents of any gender a safe, medically-supervised transition through the acute stages of withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, or other addictive substances. A 24-hour nursing staff and supervising physician provide medical care to manage symptoms and help with the transition.

During the course of the program, which typically lasts 3 to 7 days, clients also meet with substance use counselors, who provide individual and group counseling and help clients to identify and secure resources and supports for their next stage of care after Milestone. Peer Navigators, themselves people in long-term recovery, work with clients both at Milestone and in the community to help ensure a successful transition.

To inquire about program availability, contact the nursing department at (207)775-4790, ext. 111. Staff is available 24 hours a day, but the line can be busy; if you do not reach a staff member immediately, please try back.

Detox Expansion

In May 2024, Milestone announced the expansion of its detox program from 16 beds to 30. The culmination of a three-year campaign, this project involves the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility in Portland. With 15 comfortable double-occupancy rooms, three new group counseling rooms, expanded nursing facilities, a commercial kitchen, and a dedicated lounge, the new building affords clients a peaceful, comforting environment to undertake the first steps in their recovery, and allows us to treat nearly double the clients with the dignity and professionalism they deserve.

The expansion also allows us to establish an all-new 150-person outpatient program co-located on site, helping to set clients up for success as they transition out of detox and into community-based recovery.
