Recovery takes more than an individual effort; it takes a community of support.
In the time of COVID-19, we’ve all been using the word “distancing” a lot. It’s easy to feel alone these days. For people in recovery, too often this distancing creates a feeling of isolation that removes one of the most important tools in their fight against addiction: the support of friends and peers.
This September, as part of National Recovery Month, let our friends and neighbors in recovery know that they are not alone. Join Your Miles for Milestone to send the message that even though we are apart, we all stand together.
Sign up to ride, bike, run, or walk one of our suggested routes, or one of your choice. Go your chosen distance between September 12 and September 20, then post your picture or video from your route on social media with a message of support for those in recovery. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #RecoveryIsPossible and tag Milestone Recovery on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram so we can share your post.
Milestone Recovery is Maine’s leading nonprofit working to help Mainers find recovery from substance use disorders and homelessness. Based in Portland and Old Orchard Beach, we operate a Medical Detoxification Program, Emergency Homeless Shelter, Homeless Outreach Program, Residential Treatment Program, Women’s Recovery Housing, and Housing Placement Program.
Registration for Your Miles for Milestone is free; donations of any size to Milestone Recovery are greatly appreciated, and can be made from the registration page.
Do you have a community event related to recovery or homelessness that you’d like listed on our community calendar? Send a description and link to development@milestone-recovery.org.
