Help for Mainers experiencing homelessness
Have you ever seen someone struggling, and wanted to help, but weren’t sure you should call the police? It’s a helpless feeling, not knowing what to do.
Milestone’s HOME Team provides compassionate care and access to services for Mainers going through homelessness and substance use. If you see someone in Portland or South Portland who needs help, call HOME Team to get them health care, shelter, food, or a ride without involving the police. The HOME Team is always 100% free of charge.
HOME Team operates Monday-Friday 9am-9pm and weekends 9am-5pm. Call 207-838-8904 or 207-303-2073.
For individuals experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders, symptoms often result in problematic interactions with others in the community. Most often, responsibility for responding to these incidents falls to police or emergency medical services, whose only option is to bring individuals to jails or hospital emergency rooms. Unfortunately, these options do little to address the needs of the individual.
Milestone offers an alternative through its Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement Team, better known as the HOME Team. Working collaboratively with police, Emergency Medical Services, local businesses, and countless nonprofit partners, the HOME Team travels Portland and South Portland seven days a week seeking out individuals experiencing homelessness as well as mental, physical, and behavioral health challenges. HOME Team staff members engage impacted individuals, in order to provide medical care, de-escalate dangerous situations, and provide referral and transportation to emergency shelter programs, and/or assistance programs.
The HOME Team operates Monday through Friday from 9 am to 9pm and weekends from 9am to 5pm. To request service during these hours, call the HOME Team at (207) 838-8904 or 207-303-2073.
